I’ve spent two decades inside the fashion industry first as a seamstress, then a patternmaker, then a buyer before I ever wrote a word online.
StitchBrave exists because I got tired of watching people get bad advice about clothes from people who’ve never actually made or sold any.
How this started
I grew up in a household where my mother altered clothes for extra income, and I learned to sew before I learned to drive. That early apprenticeship turned into a real career: at 19, I took a patternmaking course in Los Angeles and spent the next eight years working construction and fit for a handful of mid-size clothing brands you’ve probably worn without knowing my name was ever near the process.
In my late twenties, I moved into buying for a regional boutique chain, which meant spending years elbow-deep in vendor catalogs, negotiating with manufacturers, and learning the uncomfortable truths about markup, fabric substitution, and how “premium” often just means better marketing. I did that for nearly a decade, across both womenswear and menswear lines, which is part of why StitchBrave covers both.
By my mid-thirties, I was consulting independently helping small designers understand sizing consistency and helping retailers figure out why certain pieces flew off shelves and others didn’t move at all. I also completed a certificate in textile science along the way, because I wanted to actually understand fiber behavior instead of repeating what fabric tags claimed.
Why StitchBrave exists
At 42, I started this site because I noticed a gap. Fashion content online tends to fall into two camps: pure aesthetics with no substance, or technical jargon that doesn’t help anyone get dressed in the morning. I wanted something in between writing that respects both the craft and the reader’s actual life.
StitchBrave is where I put twenty years of construction knowledge, buying experience, and fit obsession into something useful for real people, not runway models.

I don’t write about products I haven’t handled. If I recommend a fabric blend or a specific cut, it’s because I’ve either made something similar, bought it wholesale, or fitted real customers into it more times than I can count.
